David Dixon, 61 of Richmond, California, has been arrested for the cold case murder of Rachel Moncrief in 1979. The District Attorney’s Cold Case Unit helped the Santa Clara Police Department in the investigation.

Extensive DNA testing by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Crime Lab revealed the presence of a bloodstain on the pant leg of the victim which belonged to Dixon. Further DNA testing revealed that a marijuana cigarette found near the victim’s body contained both Moncrief’s and Dixon’s DNA.

Dixon will most likely be charged with one count of murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
