At about noon on Tuesday, Ardell Johnson received a knock on his door. A neighbor came to report that he had been robbed, and that the suspect, armed with a knife, was now on Johnson’s property. The neighbor then notified the police, and teams from the SJPD and Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office arrived in this unincorporated, rural part of the county to hunt for the suspect. They found him and chased him into a ravine off Higuera Road, where he was shot and killed.

Little information has been released about the incident, which ended on Tuesday evening when rescue teams went into the ravine to retrieve the suspect’s body. Police have yet to name the suspect or to identify what it was that he stole.
