A violent three-day period in San Jose has left three people dead, one of whom was killed in a police officer-involved shooting Monday morning.

Monday’s incident reportedly occurred around 6am in the 700 block of Hillsdale Avenue near the intersection with Narvaez Avenue. An officer shot and killed a man who was said to be acting suspicious and carrying a weapon.

On Saturday morning, two people were shot in the 800 block of South Third Street. The male victim died at the scene, while a 20-year-old female succumbed to her wounds on Sunday. The suspect in that incident has yet to be found, police said. The deaths mark the 35th and 36th homicides of the year in San Jose. Last year there were 20 reported homicides in the city..

The double shooting occurred around the same time as a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputy-involved shooting about a mile and a half away in the area of Park Avenue and Sunol Street. Police said a Sheriff’s deputy on patrol came across a suspect in a stolen vehicle shortly after 11 a.m., and fired several rounds after the suspect behaved in an allegedly threatening manner.

The suspect fled to a nearby industrial yard at 255 S. Montgomery St. In a search of the area, officers found Omar Muhdi, 37, and arrested him on suspicion of auto theft, possession of stolen property and parole violation. The deputy that shot at Muhdi has been placed on routine paid administrative leave.
