Alum Rock Park was closed yesterday, and there was no access or activities for people seeking a place to escape from the scorching heat. The problem was the scorching heat. Authorities determined that the high temperatures were conducive to extreme fire conditions, especially considering the fire that has been raging on nearby Mount Diablo.

Plans are in place to reopen the park today, depending on the existing weather conditions. Visitors can obtain an updated park status by calling (408) 259-5477.
