Super Bowl 50 is in full swing—the NFL has already been in town for a week, and with the game set, soon the teams will arrive at the practice fields of Stanford and San Jose State University. The Host Committee, which has broadcast the game as, “the biggest Super Bowl the NFL has ever celebrated, and one that will be uniquely Bay Area,” has announced festivities for Super Bowl City, and the performers set to take stage in the week leading up to the big game.

It will be a star-studded affair of the music world’s best and brightest—Alicia Keys, One Republic, The Band Perry, Matthew Nathanson and Chris Isaak will all put on free shows for fans in attendance at the “Super Bowl City presented by Verizon.” Keith Bruce, CEO of the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee, has touted the festivities as must-see performances from some of the best talent from not just around the world, but also from right here in the Bay Area.

“City will be treated to free concerts by some of the world’s most notable artists and the Bay Area’s finest performers,” Bruce said. “Whether it’s local groups like Loco Bloco or musicians like the Bay Area’s Chris Isaak, the culture and fabric of the region will be well-represented.”

Super Bowl City is a regular event for the games destination each year, but Bay Area residents are being treated to an extra weekend to check out the fun and exhibits on display—this weekend’s soft-opening has been rightfully named, “Hometown Weekend.” It will allow locals to to experience the festivities before the out-of-towners arrive.

That number of out-of-towners will be heavy, I can assure you. We’ve all seen the reports indicate that Super Bowl 50 will bring nearly one million folks to the valley, NFL brass have already arrived, but the actual number of travelers is closer to 250,000—still nothing to sneeze at.
