Gilroy may be the “Garlic Capital of the World,” but the town in the far south of Santa Clara County is about lots more than just garlic. They have mushrooms and strawberries too, and they have some wonderful homes in a quiet, suburban setting, which continues to preserve the agricultural backdrop of pre-silicon Silicon Valley.

At 1146 Bay Tree Drive, for instance, is a four bedroom, three bath, two story house that is absolutely stunning, both indoors and out.  It’s a spacious, 2,242 square foot home on a 6,600 square foot lot at the end of a cul-de-sac, for maximum privacy and quiet. The house includes a large kitchen with hardwood cabinets and floors and gorgeous tiled countertops. There’s a formal living room/dining room combo that opens out onto the backyard, ideal for parties and entertaining guests, but there’s also a more intimate family room for more quiet times at home. The bedrooms are large, and the master suite leads into a bonus home office and closet area. What makes this home most appealing is the outdoor area with a patio overlooking a large gas-heated pool and hot tub, a dog run and a spacious concrete area, ideal for basketball and other outdoor sports. This is a home for families who love being indoors as much as being outdoors, and it is selling for just $515,000.

On the same street, just a few blocks away, is another beautiful four bedroom, two and a half bath home at 1486 Bay Tree Drive. This 2,274 square foot, two-story home is set on a meticulously landscaped, 14,443 square foot flag lot. This is a relatively new house, built in 2000, and as much care was put into planning the inside as into planning the vast lot it sits on. The yard is shady and includes a patio, as well as a built-in barbecue so that cooking outdoors is just as easy as cooking indoors. The kitchen opens into a beautifully tiled eat-in area, and there is also a separate family room kitchen for more intimate meals. The formal living room/dining room combo is painted in designer colors and comes complete with a new carpet, installed only last year. In this house too, though, the highlight is the yard, with a lush lawn, a poolside patio and even a waterfall. What makes this home most appealing is the price: $499,000.

One last home that mustn’t be missed is 7483 Dornoch Court.  This is an enormous, 3,950 square foot home, set in an 11,761 square foot lot. The home includes five bedrooms and three and a half baths, including a private in-law suite with a bedroom, bath and private entrance. There’s a formal living room, a separate dining room and a private family room. The kitchen includes maple cabinets and all the major appliances. The outdoors includes a shaded patio space and a beautiful in ground pool, located on the side lot. This must-see property is selling for $640,000.
