Sam Liccardo
District 3
Born: April 16, 1970

With roots in San Jose that go back generations, Sam Liccardo is a City Councilmember for San Jose’s downtown core, District 3. He was elected to the council in November 2006. Before joining the council, Liccardo worked as a prosecutor in the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. He also worked as a federal prosecutor and at private law firms.

A San Jose native, Liccardo went to Bellarmine College Prep before graduating as magna cum laude from Georgetown University, where he studied government and economics and rowed crew. Liccardo earned his law degree and a master’s degree in public policy at Harvard. He is teaching a political science class at San Jose State University for the fall semester of 2011.

In 2008, Liccardo’s girlfriend and former chief of staff, Jessica Garcia-Kohl, had her email account hacked by teenage political activist working as an intern for Cindy Chavez during her time on the council.
