Want a light wine-paired dinner for $45? Check out J. Lohr’s appetizer and wine pairing class. The class will include a guided tasting of six wines matched specifically with six appetizers while you learn some fundamentals of food and wine pairing. Wines featured will be a 2010 white Riesling, 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, 2009 Chardonnay, 2009 Pinot Noir, and a 2009 Syrah. On the menu will be spiced crab salad, gnocchi, arancini, seared trout, pork tenderloin and shredded braised beef.

Celebrate the Royal Wedding at a Pub, Friday, April 29
If you are planning on staying up to watch the Royal Wedding early this Friday morning (the events starts at 3am), you are not alone. Britannia Arms in San Jose will be opening its doors at 2am to broadcast this once in a lifetime event on 21 flat screen TVs, all the while serving a traditional British breakfast of eggs, bacon, bangers and grilled tomatoes. A higher-priced “Royal Breakfast” including a keepsake wedding mug will also be available. Since it is illegal to serve alcohol between 2-6am, there will be a child-friendly glass of sparkling apple cider raised to celebrate the royal couple.

Guest Chef at Cin-Cin, Saturday, April 30
Join guest Chef Mohamad “Mo” Ayoub, who is a Silicon Valley engineer with a degree from the prestigious Hyde Park Culinary Institute, at Cin-Cin Winebar this Saturday. In addition to the usual menu will be chef specials such as manouche (a kind of pizza), fried smelt, an assortment of Lebanese mezza, and lamb done two ways. Wines for pairing will be available.

Wine Superstars of Napa, Saturday, April 30
Taste some wine superstars from the Napa Valley at Artisan Wine Depot. Being poured will be 2010 Sauvignon Blanc and 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon from Round Pond Estate, 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon from Long Meadow Ranch, and 2009 Pinot Grigio, 2007 Merlot, and “Alexis” Cabernet Sauvignon, all from Swanson. It’s like a dance for your taste buds.

Wine-Friendly Food Class, Wednesday, May 4

This class at Sur La Table will teach you how to prepare dishes that are designed to pair perfectly with the fruit of the vine, offering easy-to-prepare but complex flavors. On the menu are arugula, fennel and orange salad, herbed rack of lamb with Syrah reduction, sweet corn and goat cheese risotto, classic green beans, and bread pudding souffle with bourbon cream.
