Congratulations to the Ibrahim family of Egypt on the birth of their daughter. The child is one of the first to be born in a new, democratic Egypt, and the family celebrated her birth by naming her after one of the prime instigators of the revolution, Facebook. Yes, it was Google executive Wael Ghonim’s Facebook page that helped to stir the masses, and this family recognizes that. They could have named the infant Wael, but let’s face it. Wael is a boy’s name, so calling her that would have been silly. Instead they decided to name her Facebook, or, more precisely Facebook Jamal Ibrahim.

So welcome to a new world, Baby Facebook. We all hope you have lots of friends.
