This is a replica of the original fountain. In 1955, San Joseans voted to direct 2nd St. through the park, effectively destroying the parks integrity, and necessitating the removal of the original fountain.

St. James Park is as ominous as it gets in downtown San Jose. The park has been staked out by the homeless and those who can't or won't fit in. I was verbally accosted when I took the above photograph by a woman who thought I was taking photos of the homeless. Not a place to take the family - even in the day light hours.

In an attempt to make the park more family oriented, a playground is being constructed in one corner.
