21+Across town at Mezzanine, the fun continues with Brooklyn deepfunk revivalists THE BUDOS BAND and SF's own world-funk heroes AFROLICIOUS (live) and a closing DJ Set by MOTION POTION. The BUDOS BAND come from the same Brooklyn deep funk soul revival community that has given us Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, Antibalas, & Lee Fields, but unlike some of their peers, the Budos are in no way a polished throwback to the suit-wearing 60's. If anything, their energy and attitude is more "punk" than "funk" and their shows tend to get quite rowdy (although usually moreso onstage than off". The Budos will be joined by one of San Francisco's rising stars, AFROLICIOUS. The house band for the seminal Thursday Mission dance night has become a force in their own right. Signed to Thievery Corp's ESL Records they have had a summer to remember, playing legendary venues like Red Rocks & Electric Forest and nearly stole the show from the Budos at SFFF 2011. Tickets for this show will definitely sell out.
