Steinway Society The Bay Area, the non-profit organization dedicated to promoting excellence in piano performance and music education in the Bay Area, presents Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili. Prize-winner in the 2008 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, Ms. Buniatishvili was distinguished as a BBC New Generation Artist in 2009 and nominated for the Vienna Musikverein’s European “Rising Star” award. Now appearing with many of the world’s finest orchestras, she is known for her breathtaking virtuosity, mesmerizing stage presence, and musical depth, which have transfixed international concert audiences.Buniatishvili gave her debut performance as soloist with the Tibilisi Chamber Orchestra at age six, and was subsequently invited to give guest performances in Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Russia, Israel, and the United States. She has given critically acclaimed solo recitals and chamber music concerts at such renowned venues as London’s Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, and the Musikverein in Vienna. In 2008 she made her US concert debut at Carnegie Hall, performing Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto.
