Description
The San Jose Museum of Art and Zero 1 have commissioned artists Scott Kildall and Victoria Scott to present Gift Horse (2010) as part of the exhibition Retro-Tech on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. Gift Horse (2010) is an approximately thirteen-foot-high sculpture that refers to the mythological Trojan horse. In this public event, the artists reenact the Greek saga by “gifting” their monumental creation to the San Jose Museum; after appearing the the 01SJ Biennial’s “Green Prix,” the sculpture will travel through the streets of San Jose to the Museum. The artists will then open a trap door to inject paper sculpture into the museum space. The program is free with Museum admission. The artists invite the public to come to the South Hall site from September 4 to 17 and build brightly colored geometric paper models of viruses. They will place the viruses in the body of the horse to later be released during the ceremony. The public can also participate in any of the other 25 projects by artists, designers and architects held at South Hall, an 80,000 square foot warehouse. These collective workshops, called Out of the Garage, Into the World, will culminate in the Green Prix, a carbon-neutral parade, starting at 11a.m. on Saturday, September 18th, where Gift Horse will begin its journey to the San Jose Museum of Art.
