Description
A few years ago, Birdhouse was formed as a local Grateful Dead cover band. After a few gigs, though, the band started playing original material that embraced the jamming, country-rock ethos of the Dead but allowed the members to show off their own compositional skills. With backgrounds in jazz and improvisation, the members of Birdhouse have chops that nicely bridge technical proficiency and a sense of musical exploration. Also on the evening's bill are local bluegrass outfit the North Pacific String Band and Bay Area singer-songwriter Emily Moldy.
