32nd Annual Valentines Day Celebration, A Revel of Poetry, Music & Wine

Join Nils Peterson and Sally Ashton, the first and second Poet Laureates of Silicon Valley, for a Valentine's Day celebration with poetry, wine and song. Music will be supplied by the Nils Brothers and the For This Hour Singers.

The first event was held in 1981 at a now gone cocktail lounge at the St. Claire Hilton. Many were ordering margaritas that night, so the poems and music were punctuated with the exotic rhythms of a blender. Also, there was a bit of controversy over a picture of a lovely, though naked, lady on the flyer. The manager did not think the lobby was a suitable place for her. The following year the event was held at the SJ Museum of Art where she seemed more at home. The tradition has been carried on at Le Petite Trianon for more than a decade.

Invocation to Venus

In Spring when you appear
the hearts of all grow great
with longing. The small bird
turns fierce for love, and
heavy-footed farm animals
push against the fences
of the warming fields.

Accept, O Goddess, these lines
whose divine source you are,
for without you, nothing comes
into being beneath the changing moon.
