Take a break and breath in deeply to your soul.

That”s the idea of San Jose’s first yoga festival, Conscious SJ, which takes place Saturday at St. James Park. The goal of the event is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle and to create an empowering and accepting environment.

The opening ceremony begins at 9:30am with a full day of events planned. From yoga, music, art, speakers and meditation, Conscious SJ has a little bit of everything for everyone. Performers—which include Ben Henderson, The Heartifact, Nu Ethnic, Thatfool Al, Aki goes to Bollywood, and Yeshua & the Hightones—will play live music on the Eclipse Stage, and admission is free.

Lunar and Solar yoga tents will have five, two-hour yoga sessions each taught by different yogis. Conscious SJ has four partnered yoga studios that include San Jose’s Be the Change, Downtown Yoga Shala, Live Lotus and Santa Cruz Yoga from, as one might expect, Santa Cruz.

Along with music and yoga, there will be four speakers addressing issues such as the social consciousness of yoga, homelessness in downtown San Jose, body positivity and future plans for St. James Park. Four sessions will be dedicated to younger attendees who are interested in yoga and mindfulness.

Between all the yoga lessons, attendees can grab a bite from Canasta kitchen, Health-Ade, JuiceAlize or Rosie McCann’s, or they can visit any of the 21 vendors that will be tabling. Alongside the events and performances, there will be services available such as Bill Wilson Center, City Team, Goodwill, Momentum, PATH, Planned Parenthood, Second Harvest Food Bank and other community services. The closing ceremony starts at 7pm.

Unlimited access to all yoga classes and workshops prices run online for $49.50 and $54.50 at the door. Each ticket purchased includes a festival poster. For single drop-in yoga classes or workshops, tickets cost $25. Admission to all classes and workshops are free for those under 18.
