With new venues popping up all over downtown San Jose, there’s live music for every taste every week. We’ve rounded up 5 of the best shows this week below.

Mr. P Chill

Sacramento rapper Mr. P Chill brings his socially conscious rhymes to the Back Bar. His throwback beats are simple, keeping the focus on the lyrics which dissect topics like poverty, corporate greed and homelessness.

Steve Aoki

Expect the popular EDM party-starter to sail his inflatable raft over the hands of the crowd as the windows flex in the SJSU Event Center.

Monkey

With this show at the Blank Club, local ska six-piece Monkey celebrates their 18th year anniversary. Rooted in traditional ’60s Jamaican ska style, the band has ridden the highs and lows of ska’s popularity and are still going strong.

Colorscout

Local indie rockers ColorScout are back in action after a year off for the birth of one of the band member’s babies. With Rosa Leonardo on keys and Lisa Wong on violin, the five-piece has a catchy Ra Ra Riot vibe.

Narrators

Cortnee Langlie and Stephen Dukeheart heard each other play at an open mic about a year ago, got to jamming and formed Narrators last summer. Despite the project being so young, the duo has already polished their close two-part harmonies and folk songwriting to turn out some solid covers and originals. But the band pushes beyond folk as well, with forays into country, New Wave and the classical-pop influences of indie cabaret.
