San Jose made it into the Top 10 list for being one of the nation’s top cities to combat climate change and mitigate impacts on the environment.

San Jose most likely came in ninth overall because of its Green Vision Plan enacted four years ago by the San Jose City Council. According to Boyd Cohen of Vancouver-based CO2IMPACT, which conducted the survey and analyzes the practices and policies of U.S. cities, San Francisco came in first.

Cohen took various factors into consideration to compile his list: the political commitments of city mayors to environmental activism; Carbon War Room Cities Challenge; Clinton 40 Cities and Local Governments for Sustainability; LEED certified green buildings; clean tech investment; and green house gas emissions.

San Francisco outshone other U.S. cities by being one of just three cities to be members of key national climate change groups.
