Most people would never guess that Hellyer County Park, flanked by one of the busiest highways in the state and a typical suburban development, contains accommodations and hidden wilderness treasures within walking distance of the parking lot.
Most visitors only use the trail around Cottonwood Lake, or the numerous barbecue pits installed under the ubiquitous oaks around the park. Hellyer Park is also home to a Velodrome and a Disc Golf course. Visitors to the Velodrome are welcomed to participate in Saturday morning training sessions. Bikes are available for rent for $5; use of the track is also $5. The Disc Golf course is located on the other side of 101, and there is convenient parking right off of Hellyer Avenue.
The park will host its third annual Festival in the Park on June 25, from 11am to 4pm. Admission is free and the event will include kayaking, paddle boarding and various other activities.
Hellyer County Park is located at 985 Hellyer Avenue, off Highway 101. Parking is $6.
