Dell Computers may be more closely associated with Texas than with Silicon Valley, but the company is establishing a foothold here too—and a pretty big foothold at that. It is in the process of taking over 240,000 sq. feet of R&D space, spread out over two buildings on Great America Parkway in Santa Clara.

One of the buildings was occupied by Atheros Communications before it relocated to San Jose, while the other is leased by Oracle, but is in the process of being phased out.

Dell has recently made several important acquisitions in Silicon Valley, including KACE Networks and Ocarina Networks. Now that the company is planning to expand its presence here, it expects to create a significant number of new jobs for Silicon Valley residents.
