[tweetmeme]Husband-and-wife team/former Talking Heads rhythm section Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth this week announced they'll take the Tom Tom Club out on the road this fall for the group's first “lengthy” North American tour in 10 years in support of the forthcoming concert album Genius of Live.Due out Sept. 28 on Latin imprint Naional Records, the new record “will feature select tracks” from 2002's double-disc Live @ The Clubhouse release, plus a “Latin alternative remix tribute” to the band's oft-sampled classic “Genius of Love.” While a full tracklist hasn't been announced, Live @ The Clubhouse does feature such cuts as “Suboceana,” “The Man With the 4-Way Hips” and “Wordy Rappinghood.”
The band is set to embark on a 17-date tour beginning Sept. 21 in Fairfield, Conn., and wrapping up Oct. 12 in San Diego (see full dates below). At least one more concert — in New York City — is still due to be announced, according to the band's website.
In a news release announcing the tour, Frantz says, “It will be a real pleasure for us to see so much of the USA again this fall. We are all very excited about this tour, to go out and make new friends and reconnect with old friends. The band consists of seven players, is smoking hot and completely live. We don't use any sequencers or backing tapes at all.”
