Armed with a velvety soft voice and style and grace to match, baritone Spencer Day may just be the next big name in vocal jazz; if not, perhaps only the industry can be blamed. His newest album, Vagabond, displays the impassioned singer’s true talent, a diverse expose of original compositions, each one crafted with a unique style and tone. Day, a Bay Area resident by way of Arizona, has been earned comparisons by the press to a variety of jazz big-wigs, from Harry Connick Jr. to Rufus Wainwright and Boz Scaggs. Though Day was quoted in the SF Chronicle admitting performing isn’t always his cup of tea, the sheer power of his vocal torrent should be enough to bring any house (or open air theatre) to its knees.
