The list of South Bay holiday traditions is growing. In addition to Fantasy of Lights in Vasona Park and Christmas in the Park in San Jose, Great America is getting into jingle bell action with Winterfest. The Santa Clara amusement park is adding some thrills to the  season with special holiday-themed events, along with the fun and adventure of big drops and loop-the-loops.

As guests enter the park, they will be greeted, as usual, by the Carousel Columbia pond—with a cool new twist. Instead of spouting fountains, the pond will be frozen over and filled with twirling ice skaters. Lights aplenty and other holiday decor will lead the way to Santa’s workshop, where children will have the chance to tell Old Saint Nick why they should make the Good List and have their pictures taken. Then its off to Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree lot where kids can search for the little tree that Charlie Brown made famous.

Winterfest also features a variety of holiday shows. From high-energy dance performances, like the “Cool Yule Christmas,” where 12 singers and dancers give a pop performance under the 70-foot Christmas tree, to an ice show starring Snoopy, Charlie and the whole Peanuts gang. All this, plus carolers caroling and classic Christmas tunes filling the air in every corner of the park.

In between attractions and rides, visitors can munch on a festive holiday treats or grab a full holiday dinner with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, baked ham and more—plus hot chocolate, popcorn, caramel apples and some very special seasonal libations, with hot chocolate, mulled wine and candy cane cookies.

The park will keep 20 rides open, as well—including the Carousel Columbia, the Celebration Swings, Gold Striker and Delirium.

Winterfest runs every weekend until Dec. 19, with daily operation Dec. 19- 23 and reopens Dec.  26-30 with regular admission available now.
