Description
Tonight’s special recital features mezzo-soprano Yumi Thomas accompanied on piano. The program will feature songs by Claude Debussy, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Robert Schumann.Yumi Thomas sings an extensive repertoire of oratorio, opera, art songs, chamber music and Japanese folk songs. She gave her New York debut recital at Bargemusic in September 2008. Yumi recently completed her master of music degree at the Longy School of Music, where she studied with Anna Gabrieli.
As the daughter of professional string players, Yumi is particularly passionate about vocal chamber music. Recent performances include a concert of works for voice, violin and piano in Japan; Brahms Op. 91 at the Lilypad in Cambridge, Mass.; and Shostakovich's Seven Romances on Verses by Alexander Blok, Op.127 at Edward Pickman Hall in Cambridge. Yumi, believing that music should be accessible to all people, also sings regularly at low-income senior centers around the Bay Area.
