Description
Called by Billboard Magazine a group "that should be on your radar," YASSOU is an indie art pop band that bridges the worlds of pop and classical art. Anchored by the mesmerizing vocals of Lilie Hoy, their multimedia productions are bold and emotional.Formed by Hoy and James Jackson in an Upstate New York high school chorus class, YASSOU is a continually evolving group of musicians, producers, composers, and visual artists. With a sound compared to Radiohead and FKA Twigs, their 2013 EP In Fits In Dreams garnered widespread press attention. A striking collection of songs, it features the vocals of former Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur. In 2015, they released Video EP, a six-song project crafted around a singular story and emotional experience. Released as an "album cycle" of single videos, the EP was pronounced by Nylon as "redefining the album."
In 2016, YASSOU opened for The National and premiered their first full-length composition "How They Fade" at the Louisville Ballet. After scoring a short film in 2017, they produced a series of live performance videos with the Juxtapositions String Quartet in 2018. In September 2018, YASSOU will premiere FURY, a collaboration with principal dancers from SF Ballet and Alonzo King LINES Ballet.
