Description
Wontanara Revolution brings a funky message of unity to San Franciscco’s reggae scene. San Francisco-based musical outfit Wontanara Revolution are set to bring their music – and their message of unity - to the Fillmore’s famed Boom Boom Room and its monthly reggae night. The eclectic group, comprised of musicians from Guinea, Gambia, Madagascar, Sweden, and the U.S., plays a unique mix of roots reggae, West African funk, and manding music that reflects the band members’ diverse origins from around the globe. The band takes its name (wontanara) from the term for “coming together” or “unity” in the Sousou language of Guinea, West Africa, and this focus on unity through diversity is reflected in their songs, with lyrics –sung variously in English, French, and Sousou – championing individual and political freedom, global unity, and pan-African pride. The band headlines at the Boom Boom Room on May 13, with local reggae/funk outfit Jahlectrik opening.
