Description

"The Wisdon of Desire" is a poetic journey into the landscape of physical, spiritual and emotional longing with all its complexities and delights. It asks fundamental questions:

* What is it you truly hunger for?
* What is the role of desire in an embodied spiritual practice?

Sanskrit chants, dance and evocative poetry all interweave with striking visual tapestries to create a complex and rich evening. The audience is carried on a journey beyond simple rejection or indulgence of desire and asked, instead, to negotiate these complex currents with a mature perspective.Religious traditions around the world have rejected desire as an obstacle on the spiritual journey. Now, modern neo-Tantric workshops invite us to directly engage, even expand, our sensual longings.

* What is the middle path?
* How do we intelligently work with the potent possibilities in this stream?

"The Wisdom of Desire" draws from the author’s long study of the Kashmiri Shaivite Yogic lineage where the world was seen to evolve out of desire and this force held great possibilities.

Equally, the psychoanalytic and humanistic psychological perspectives about our libidinal energy and what Carl Rogers called the “Innate drive towards wholeness” inform the piece. The work asks rich questions, offers layered perspectives and, ultimately, is a celebration of the human spirit.

A dance party will follow the performance, and audience members are invited to wear red. There will be a workshop the following day that will carry themes of the piece into concrete practices.
