A favorite of Bay Area audiences, William Wellborn celebrates the 25th anniversary of his debut at Old First Concerts with a program of the familiar and lesser-known. Along with sonatas by Haydn and Beethoven (the ever-popular "Moonlight" sonata), Wellborn features two versions of the waltz—the rarely-heard solo version of Invitation to the Dance by Weber, and the devilish Mephisto Waltz No. 1 by Liszt. French music is represented by Debussy's evocative first book of Images (which includes the lovely Reflections in the Water), and a 200th birthday tribute to composer Charles-Valentin Alkan, with some of his delightfully quirky Sketches, Op. 63. In what may be a first for Old First audiences, Wellborn will invite the audience to choose the encores!
