Parker’s unique approach encourages the cultivation of daring musical concepts such as ‘universal tonality’, which employs melodic, rhythmic and harmonic equality to free compositions from the limitations of an explicit key signature. Although not classically trained, he frequently bows his instrument to invoke rich, voice-like phrases.
