+ Nolan Haener (Re:Body)
Whomadewho DJ set- (Tomas Barfod aka Tomboy and Jeppe Kjellberg)
$5-8 at the door.
Thomas Barford -records under the name Tomboy and releases for Get Physical, Gomma & Turbo Tomboy started playing drums in his early teens, but at some point in his late teens he decided, that funk and rock was boring. He fell in love with electronic music like classic house, breakbeats and even jungle (maybe because of the complex rhythmpatterns). Tomas bought a record player, an Atari and a Akai mono-sampler tried to learn himself how to make the music that he enjoyed listening to. In the late nineties, he finally got his stuff together and slowy started both producing and playing as a dj. But after being involved in the more purist clubscene for a while, he ones
again where longing for a more analog and organic side to things. He started doing stuff for german feinschmecker label Gomma as Tomboy and created the spacy-disco-outfit,
Whomadewho, together with a couple of fellow-musicians from Copenhagen.
Along with his two big projects he also found time to do EPs for labels like Turbo, Kitsuné and Get Physical and remix production for artist like Gorillaz, Chromeo and Soffy O.
As a drummer for Whomadewho he has done extensive touring and largescale concerts together with artists like Hot Chip, Mylo and Soulwax. But the main focus for Tomas has always been his
djing. Starting out at small club in Copenhagen playing disco and ol' skool hip hop - getting his fee in free meals.
Now he is playing Europe's finest clubs like Fabric (London), Robert Jonson (Frankfurt) and Panorama Bar (Berlin) a long with his residency at Copenhagen's legendary venue, Vega.
On his solo-tip, TomBoy released his debut album "Seriøs" on the Munich-based label Gomma, while consistently producing much blogged-about remixes for artists like Bloc Party, The Gorillaz, Chromeo, Digitalism and Peaches and earning international recognition from leading music magazines. Described by fellow artist and co-signer Tiga as "Aphex Twin sharing a drum machine with Etienne de Crécy in a '70s-era duplex in Chicago", his "funk-filled-groove-injected-modern-post-disco-house-bombs" were even enjoyed by movie star Michael Douglas (not voluntarily, though) while doing his work-out in a LA hotel gym: "This music is great, man."
