Description
White on White —New Exhibit from the Lace MuseumOn exhibit February 7 through June 24 at The Lace Museum -- “White on White: Hand Stitching Through Time” explores the evolution of monochromatic needlework from the sixteenth century to the present.
The exhibit is in partnership with the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design. The school provides classes taught by skilled teachers in needlework and textile artists. The school promotes and shares the knowledge and history of hand embroidery and needlework to preserve it as an art form.
The exhibit will include hundreds of priceless examples of needlework from the school as well as the Lace Museum collection. Examples of needlework found in world-wide cultures will also be included.
Embroidery is currently having a moment in fashion with people using traditional embroidery hoops and crewel needles. Many are sharing their work online. Some say needlework is a means to relax as well as an outlet of creativity. Come to the exhibit and decide for yourself.
The Lace Museum is located at 552 South Murphy in Sunnyvale. Regular hours are 11-4 PM Tuesday through Saturday. It is also open on the third Friday of each month from 7-9 PM.
