More about Shawn Ryan..
Shawn’s been collecting records since he was in high school. What started as a interest in punk and hip-hop grew into a love of all things rhythmic. As soon as he could drive, he began to search far & wide for new music. Trips to Philadelphia, Baltimore & New York to hunt for records became routine. His love of dance music developed in college, when he spent semesters in London & Dublin. He brought home as many records as he could carry & started to DJ parties.
In 2006, Shawn began to hone his skills by throwing parties around Philadelphia. First he co-founded Hurrah, a long-running basement party where dancers get loose to a high energy blend of house & disco. Previous guests include Mike Simonetti, Runaway’s Marcos Cabral, Young Edits, and numerous other top-shelf selectors. In 2009, he started Steppin Out, another monthly party dedicated to the synth pop, new wave, and everything 80s. Beyond Philadelphia, Shawn's played across the US, from San Francisco to DC to NYC, sharing bills with Eli Escobar, King Britt, MSTRKRFT, and more along the way.
In 2007, Shawn launched his influential blog, Dollar Bin Jams. He uses it to preserve vinyl records in the digital age, by sharing downloads of favorite songs & recent discoveries. It quickly became an essential resource for DJs & listeners around the globe. Dollar Bin Jams is also an outlet for Shawn to post new mixes and share his personal DJ edits. In 2010, Gazeebo International released a trio of Shawn's edits under his Joy Revision moniker. Currently he's working on a new project with producer extraordinaire Peter Dragontail & planning some fun parties for Philadelphia.
