About SPARK!
http://www.sparkcircus.org/
SPARK! Circus is an entirely volunteer circus that spends a month benefiting disadvantaged children on the Thai Burmese border. A group of over 20 international performers travel to refugee camps, migrant schools, hospitals and orphanages. They perform silly routines for the kids by day and circus-style fire shows at night. They also run playshops, bring donations of toys and art supplies, teach the kids how to make their own toys and generally make them laugh. The refugees live a life of insecurity and restricted freedom. There are very few opportunities to play, laugh, be creative or have any sort of childhood. Spark! reaches over 4,000 children each year. Spark! Circus aim is to brighten days with magic, wonder, and laughter. The performers are all unpaid and Spark! relies entirely on your generous donations and community support .
Over 250,000 people have fled oppression, war and poverty in Burma to the refugee camps. Tens of thousands of these refugees are children – children who have been traumatized by the ongoing war waged by the Burmese military dictatorship against the regions hill-tribes. They are prevented from leaving and entering Thailand legally, so they end up in the camps or living illegally along the border regions, at huge risk of being taken into the sex trade, suffering malnourishment and other ongoing threats to their well being and lives. The UN, RedCross and other non-governmental organizations have set up schools and orphanages and help to provide food and shelter. In addition to basic necessities like shelter, clothes, food and education, children also need hope, joy and play.

HEATHER DENHAM
Heather Denham is a whimsical fire performer and hoop dancer. For the past decade, Heather lived in San Francisco where she graduated from the master’s program in fashion design at the Academy of Art University. After graduating, Heather worked seven years as a technical designer in the fashion industry. Last year, she left her job to pursue hooping, fire performing, costume making, and circus arts full time. Heather grew up in Carson City, Nevada. At the age of three, she started acrobatics and dance lessons. She quickly fell in love with dancing, performing, acrobatics, and costumes. In the last few years, hooping has become her passion and has brought her back to performing. Heather has appeared throughout the Bay Area as a solo act and with the hoop-dance group Mandala. She was a finalist on both seasons of Hooping Idol on Hooping.org. She is also a certified Hoop Dance Instructor from Bodyhoops Fitness for both children and adults.
