Description
There was a time during the ‘80s when hair-metal and glam had all but taken over the mainstream rock scene, and a style emerged to counteract those flamboyant styles. It was called goth-rock, and though it wasn’t exactly dread-inspiring, it did paint a somewhat bleaker picture than the fluorescent ideals of glam. The LA-based foursome War Tapes channels the spirit of goth-rock standouts Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, and the Sisters of Mercy, with a little post-punk Billy Idol machismo thrown in the mix. The band’s new album “The Continental Divide” is packed with ‘80s darkness, which by today’s standards, isn’t so dark after all.
