Description
The Arts Division of UC Santa Cruz, along with the Film and Digital Media and History of Art and Visual Culture departments, presents a Visual & Media Cultures Colloquium with Steven Nelson. An Associate Professor of African and African American Art History at UCLA, Steven Nelson is renowned for his writings on the contemporary and historic arts, architecture and urbanism of Africa and its diasporas, African American art history, and queer studies have appeared in anthologies and exhibition catalogues. He is currently working on a new book, Dakar: The Making of an African Metropolis, a study of the Underground Railroad. This lecture will be held in Studio C of the Communications Building.
