The Royal NoneSuch Gallery will host three artists this summer during 3 for 3: Three Summer Residencies at RNG. Our July artist-in-residence is Veronica De Jesus, whose Super-Hero based art practice contemplates identity, loss of identity, fantasy and whimsy. Veronica will install large cut outs mounted on wooden stands. The cut outs are character studies from drawings of Batman, Jesus, and Muscle Men. These life-size self-standing cut outs will be arranged against a painted background to create a naturalistic diorama like setting. The figures of Batman, Jesus, and Muscle Men, represent no real narrative, just moments of fantasy and whimsy. This work explores what it means to be a strong person and what it means to lose track of identity, even in the midst of taking on roles. The work is about the artist’s constant search to define and redefine identity as an artist, teacher, person, and person in the world.
