USF Announces 10th Annual Human Rights Film FestivalCelebrating 10-years of the power of film to educate
What: 10th Annual Human Rights Film Festival at the University of San Francisco (USF)
When: Thursday, March 29, Friday, March 30 & Saturday, March 31, 2012
Where: Presentation Theatre, 2350 Turk Boulevard (at Masonic), San Francisco. Presentation Theater is located in the University of San Francisco's School of Education Building at 2350 Turk Boulevard, just west of Masonic, between Annapolis Terrace and Tamalpais Terrace.
Why: We believe in the power of film to educate about human rights violations and encourage citizens to take action. We know that committed citizens can help to stop these abuses. Our goals are to promote awareness and discussion of global human rights issues and explore challenges to human rights in specific locations. Additionally, this Festival seeks to strengthen USF's links with Bay Area human rights organizations, which we invite to participate in educating our audiences.
This 10th anniversary festival will showcase13 selected films that address human rights abuses including genocide, state terrorism, environmental destruction, human trafficking, indigenous rights, and violence against the LGBT community in locations as varied as the U.S., Guatemala, Rwanda, Iran, Eastern Europe, Chile, and Ecuador. For the fourth year, the festival will open with a selection of shorts produced by University of San Francisco (USF) students.
Info: This film festival is FREE and open to the public. The community is encouraged to attend. For details on each film, and the specific schedule of the three-day event, please visit: www.usfca.edu/artsci/hrff/
