Description

The City is a sometimes a deafening cacophony of life: voices, movement, cars, buildings, streets, and lights. This movement can be silenced in the inquisition of new members, the demolition of the old to make way for the new. Upheaval and construction are constants in urban environments the closing and opening of businesses, people moving to and from the city. The loud places sometimes go quiet while the quiet can become loud. The ever shifting boundaries and dynamics within an urban environment are caused and defined by many factors. The work invites the viewer to remember and ponder this fact. The work of David Tim considers the culture that inhabited the shifting spaces, while also providing a glimpse at the harmonious chaos of the city to show a potential for the new. While Alejandro Hernandez observes a specific urban environment though ambiguous and not fully defined. The photographs allow us to remember and ponder the changes of the city, observing one urban shift to bring light to many.
