Building commenced shortly after the discovery of King
Tutankhamens's tomb in the Valley of Kings (1922), hence the
Egyptian motifs, such as twin sphinxes projecting from the ground
floor. Head of a man, body of a lion.
The movie Mad City, starring Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta,
was filmed in the area around St. James Park. Actually, most
of the movie took place around this building. The movie is so
bad that I cannot recommend watching it, even to see San Jose's
local architecture or the emerald glow of St. James Park. |
