The Phelan Building is a heap. San Jose took a pounding in the quake of 1906, but all you ever hear about is the woe of San Francisco - a cry-baby city.
San Jose took it on the chin like a man.

Unfortunately, feminizing influences were already at work . . . and the lay of the land was changing. An emasculation of El Dorado St. occurred in 1902 when its name was changed to Post. Why "Post?" - nobody knows. There is no "Post" of any significance in these here parts. Soon, spitting would be discouraged.

At this time coffee shops popped up in Willow Glen, and stars fell out of heaven.
