The Phelan Building is a heap. San Jose took a pounding in the quake of 1906, but all you ever hear about is the woe of San Francisco - a cry-baby city.
San Jose took it on the chin like a man.

Unfortunately, feminizing influences were already at work . . . and the lay of the land was changing. An emasculation of El Dorado St. occurred in 1902 when its name was changed to Post.
