Berkeley, CA – In anticipation of the March 12 release of rock legend David Bowie's The Next Day (the singer/songwriter's first new album in over a decade), San Francisco-based Bowie tribute bands The Jean Genies and Cat People will take the stage together for the first time on Saturday, March 2, at Berkeley's own Starry Plough Pub. Bowie to Bowie: A Celebration will feature a multi-decade retrospective of Bowie's famously varied and influential catalog of rock-and-roll classics. In a January 29 online interview with MTV Hive, entitled An Exclusive Interview With David Bowie(s). Jean Genies lead singer Geoff Ball mused, "When you perform as David Bowie, even when you're just listening to his music, Bowie is inviting you to come in and get into the playground with him."

"We are so happy to be returning to The Starry Plough, it's a comfortable venue with a great sound, and we like to consider it our home-away-from-home in Berkeley," enthused Ball in an earlier conversation.
"Mr. Jones's new album was produced by Tony Visconti, and yes, both Bowie bands are genuinely thrilled to include some of those timeless Visconti-molded tunes from albums like Heroes and Young Americans, among others," said Cat People lead singer Sean Garrett, alluding to Bowie's birth name, David Jones. "Cat People is new to the local scene, and we're hoping to build a rep for ourselves as connoisseurs of all the great Bowie material, so you'll definitely hear one or two of his best B-sides as well," Garrett smiled.
Bowie's January announcement of his upcoming album release made international headlines. In an interview published January 15, Visconti told RollingStone.com's Andy Greene that Bowie,"...says that he will only play if he feels like it, but no tour." Ball's comment on this apparent no-touring policy was, "Hey, I want to see Bowie live at least as much as the next fan does...but in the meantime, if you're craving Bowie music, our March 2 show at The Starry Plough is guaranteed to remind you of some favorites, and perhaps cause you to dance your posterior off."
