Description
The event features galleries of hand-woven, hand-spun and hand-made yardage, yarn, clothing, household items, baskets, fiber sculpture, scarves, and accessories. Hands-on events will take place where visitors can try weaving, spinning and braiding. A Spinning Corral will offer “learn-to-spin” lessons with a variety of spindles and wheels. Vendors in the market place will demonstrate looms, spinning wheels, kumihimo braiding, and fiber jewelry making as well as selling a huge variety of yarns, books, beads, buttons, gifts and tools for the fiber arts.Classes in the fiber arts are ongoing throughout the weekend with well-known instructors such as Syne Mitchell teaching Handwoven E-textiles and Jacey Boggs teaching advanced spinning. A fashion show of handwoven garments takes place on Friday, May 18th.
Peggy Osterkamp, Marin County resident, former City College handweaving instructor, author and weaver will give the keynote address at Saturday’s banquet. Peggy will speak on “Harvesting Ideas”.
Entrance to the marketplace and galleries is $12 for adults, $10 for students with ID, free for children under 15. The event is sponsored by the Conference of Northern California Handweavers, Inc. which was founded in 1953 to further the art and appreciation of the craft of handweaving. It is a non-profit, volunteer organization. Today the member Guilds of CNCH embrace all fiber arts associated with weaving. Our membership includes not only weavers, but also dyers, basketmakers, braiders, and spinners.
