mosshouse and 5 Claude Lane Gallery are pleased to present Time Machine, an exhibition by Evan Holm and Jason Michael Aumann. Evan Holm is an Oakland based artist who assimilates obsolete and abandoned technology into his installations and wall pieces. Attending UC Santa Cruz to study art and engineering, Holm was drawn to make large-scale sculptures exploring the intrinsic grace and beauty found in nature. Upon graduating in 2002 he committed himself to continuing research in the field of sculpture. With the edition of motors, pulleys, electronics, and speakers, his formal and static sculptures soon evolved into delicate autonomous machines. He has shown exclusively in Oakland and is now beginning to bring installations into San Francisco and the broader Bay Area. His engineering background continues to inform current work as he pushes the limits of how technology can interface with poetic themes of loss and transmigration. Geologic evolution, material excess, and cultural loss underpin and create a foundation for Holm's current work. Recent kinetic sculptures utilize found sound as cultural artifacts. With these machines, Holm generates elusive soundcapes woven with forgotten music and misplaced recordings from decades past.

Jason Michael Aumann is a San Francisco based painter currently experimenting with acrylic mixed media transfers. Working from found vernacular photography, Aumann examines the nature of time, memory and loss through a fusion of printmaking, re-photography and painting. His mixed media works on panel layer digital technology with traditional processes, often reflecting or repeating imagery from the past in various states of deterioration. Through this aesthetic lens he creates mysterious and tonal variations of the familiar that connote the imperfections, impermanence and beauty of our collective and conscious experience. Aumann received his BFA in 1999 from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. He has lived and worked as an artist in San Francisco since 2004 and has exhibited throughout the Bay Area, nationally and internationally. 'Time Machine' is Aumann's second collaboration with mosshouse.

In this exhibition Aumann and Holm incorporate new and current work in sculpture, sound, and 2d mixed media. With consideration of the gallery space, Aumann and Holm are exploring an artistic collaborative process. Aumann and Holm were brought together because of the nature of their respective practice and because of the possibility of creating a shared aesthetic language within the 5 Claude Lane Gallery context. The show title is based on the liminal relationship between Aumann and Holm’s work. The exhibition is curated by Scott S. Jennings of mosshouse
