The always engaging City Lights Theater Company presents the South Bay premiere of Tigers Be Still, Kim Rosenstock's "comedy about depression." The plot focuses on a woman who earns her degree, moves back in with her quirky family and tries to find a way out of a major rut. Plus, there's the matter of catching an escaped tiger from the local zoo. In honor of the two cutest characters in the show-a pair of chihuahuas-City Lights is partnering with the Silicon Valley Pet Project to post an adoption wall at the theater, advertising pets in need of homes. The show runs through Feb. 21. (KK)

City Lights Theater Company presents "Tigers Be Still" by Kim Rosenstock, a writer/producer from TV's New Girl.

When you're stuck in a rut, it's time to do something. Anything.

In this comedy about depression, Sherry Wickman has recently earned a degree in art therapy-only to find herself moving back in with her family, where she retreats to her bed until a job opportunity gives her renewed purpose. Now if only her mother would come downstairs, her sister would get off the couch, her first patient would do one of his assignments, her boss would leave his gun at home, and someone would catch the tiger that escaped from the local zoo, everything would be just perfect.

Directed by Virginia Drake, the play runs Jan. 21-Feb. 21 at City Lights, 529 S. Second St., San Jose.

For this production, City Lights is partnering with the Silicon Valley Pet Project, a nonprofit organization of volunteers committed to saving local at-risk shelter pets through rescue, community involvement and education. In honor of the play's subplot involving two plucky chihuahuas, SVPP is planning an "adoption wall" in the theater with photos of pets needing new homes.
