"Fourteen albums into their discography, each new Thee Oh Sees album is somewhat unpredictable. Sometimes a new LP means acid-baked vocals and weirdo psych rock (Castlemania). Maybe it means quiet ballads (Thee Hounds of Foggy Notion) or driving krautrock (Carrion Crawler/The Dream). And while there are familiar elements in play with "Flood's New Light", off Putrifiers II-- most notably, John Dwyer's falsetto-- the song is proof that their upcoming album has the band tightening their focus and cleaning up their sound. They do this without losing the muscle they've established on previous records, delivering a song with a strong hook. The obvious star here, though, is the infectiously simple "ba ba ba" chorus."
