Description
The Foothill College Theatre Arts Department announces auditions for "Nickel & Dimed" Sunday, Feb. 10, from 7 to 10 p.m. in Appreciation Hall (Room 1501) or Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Smithwick Theatre (Room 1001) at Foothill College. Performers need only attend one audition session and should be prepared to stay for up to three hours. All roles are open and actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition. Roles are available for one woman and 20 men. Cold readings from the script will be assigned and performers may prepare an optional contemporary monologue. Performers should bring a headshot and resume. This is a non-equity performance and offers no pay.
Foothill College Theatre Arts Instructor Tom Gough, M.F.A., will direct Foothill's production of "Nickel & Dimed".
Written by Joan Holden and based on the writings of Barbara Ehrenreich, "Nickel & Dimed" asks can a middle-aged, middle-class woman survive when she suddenly has to make beds all day in a hotel and live on $7 an hour? Maybe. But one $7-an-hour job won't pay the rent: She'll have to do back-to-back shifts as a chambermaid and waitress.
An acclaimed author, Ehrenreich researched low-wage life firsthand, confident that she was prepared for the worst. Ehrenreich's best-seller about her odyssey is vivid and witty, yet always deeply sobering.
Callback audition is Saturday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rehearsal begins April 7. The show runs May 24 through June 9.
Parking Lot 1 provides best access to audition venues. Alternately, and to avoid the stairs, you may park in Student Lot 5 and take the five minute, level walk to auditions.
Parking regulations require a $3 parking permit at all times. Patrons must purchase the required campus parking permit for $3. Purchase permit at dispensers in any student lot. Dispensers accept one-dollar bills and quarters. Avoid costly citations and purchase a permit. If you are cast in the show, you will receive a complimentary permit for the duration of the project.
