Reid just signed Chris Rene to Sony/Epic recording, following in the foot steps of such great artists launched by L.A. Reid, Usher, Pink, Justin Bieber and Rihanna. Following his worldwide television debut, Rene is riding a wave of success, making his last stop before hitting the ‘fast lane’ as a major national artist! Joining him is a lineup of solid talent from Rene's hometown area of Santa Cruz, including Ghambit & Sincere, along with Sonoma County's legendary live hip-hop unit, The 808 Band, appearing with positive rapper/beatbox master, Radio Active (formerly of Spearhead) in their combined group Activ808. The 808 Band was awarded a 2011 Norbay music award for ‘Best Hip Hop Group,’ by The North Bay Bohemian.ABOUT CHRIS RENE
Chris Rene will tell you that things haven’t been easy for him in the past. The ‘X Factor‘ rising star is 28, fresh out of rehab, where he battled his addiction to hard drugs. Now, he’s ready to turn things around and put his inarguable music talent to good use, which he hopes not only will put his name in lights, but help him put food on the table for his toddler.
Before hitting the ‘X Factor’ stage, the Santa Cruz, California native was a trash collector, just trying to make it by for his son, but struggling immensely with his addiction to cocaine and methamphetamine. Chris has been clean for a over eight months now, and it’s clear that his new high will be his success — he got through his ‘X’ audition with four yeses after performing an inspirational original song called ‘Young Homie.’
Music is in his blood, in fact, as his grandfather, Leon Rene, is a famous song writer and record label owner, and his father played piano, which gave a very young Chris a very early music education. Despite the serious R&B pedigree from his family, which he so respected, Chris chose a different musical path. It was punk rock, the skate scene, and later rap that made him want to pursue a life in music. But soon Chris' rebellious ways grew beyond punk music and into the drug world, which derailed his band and nearly killed him. Chris, a father of two sons, got clean in 2006 and with a newfound sense of clarity started finding inspiration in music other than punk. He'd always liked Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, and even the ultimate piano man, Billy Joel and soon found a love for hip-hop and rap music. Blending his favorite musical styles into one, he released his first solo record, ‘Soul'd Out,’ in 2009. He soon fell off the wagon, only to find recovery again, as of April 20, 2011, and today works his program daily to stay clean, and has been clean for over nine months! Through his own personal struggle, and sharing this with millions of viewers through his heart felt performance on X-Factor, Chris Rene has changed lives world-wide, and hopes to continue this message with his new found fame.
