Description
The Taming of the Shrew tells the tale of a young noble named Petruchio and his courtship with a headstrong woman, Katherina-the titular "shrew," whose antagonistic relationship with the men around her inspires Petruchio to attempt turn her into an obedient and submissive wife. It is one of Shakespeare's most controversial plays, as it has been interpreted as misogynistic. But with its slapstick comedy, ridiculous costuming and uproarious hijinks, this romantic comedy remains a staple of the outdoor summer Shakespeare circuit. The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival production comes to Redwood City this weekend. (JD)
