Come celebrate Valentines weekend with The Purple Ones. From funk to pop ballads and everything in between, the music of Prince exudes Dance, Music, Sex, Romance! This event will be a straight up funk bomb and promises some Slow Love to cap off this special evening. Opening is John Payne & The Hurt (Tribute to The Time)Formed in April 2012, The Purple Ones pay homage to one of the most well known musicians spanning over multiple decades, the incredible songwriting, musicianship and over the top legendary performances of The Purple One himself...PRINCE. With 25 studio albums, over 100 million albums sold worldwide and endless awards won, Prince also recently gained the 2013 Billboard Icon Award.
From Oakland CA, The Purple Ones is the brainchild of Morty Okin (former co-founder/manager/trumpet of MJ tribute Foreverland, former co-founder of Neil Diamond tribute Superdiamond), and Roger Rocha (Lead guitar of 4 Non Blondes, The Goldenhearts). This all star Bay Area band features top notch musicians of current and former staple bands such as The New Morty Show, 4 Non Blondes, 2014 Grammy-winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra, Huey Lewis and The News, latin jazz giant The John Santos Sextet, Foreverland, Superdiamond, Casino Royale, Joshua Cook and The Key of Now, and more.
At their recent performance at San Jose's Rockbar Theater, legendary comedian/singer-songwriter Margaret Cho joined them onstage. Margaret, who is a huge Prince fan, has taken a fond liking to TPO's energetic stage presence and true to form homage to Prince's music.
Party like its 1999 with the band members, as they faithfully power though hit after hit from A sides to B sides and deep cuts with classics such as Little Red Corvette, 1999, I Feel for You, I Would Die 4 U, Controversy, It’s Gonna Be A Beautiful Night, Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, Lets Go Crazy, as well as Prince staples Darling Nikki, Computer Blue, Dirty Mind and so many more including Morris Day and The Time’s The Bird and Jungle Love. Plus, TPO couldn’t dare forget the Prince/Sheila E hits The Glamorous Life and A Love Bizarre and Prince/Sheena Easton’s U Got The Look!
The Purple Ones has taken the Bay Area, CA by storm, packing crowds into classic venues such as Bimbos 365 Club, Slims, Red Devil Lounge, Cafe DuNord, Oakland's The New Parish and The Uptown, San Jose's The Blank Club and RockBar Theater, Redwood City's Club Fox, Sacramento's Harlow's, and Fresno's Fulton 55, to name a few. In addition, TPO has also performed at many summer concert series and fairs & festivals. In October 2013, TPO was asked to perform at the highly acclaimed Bay Area's Treasure Island Music Festival, which is put on by Another Planet/Noisepop Productions.
