Description
With tongue only slightly in cheek (because it’s really hard to sing that way), Volti kicks off the December Choral Concert Marathon with alternative ways of celebrating the love and spirituality of the season. A new commission from Puerto Rico-born composer Armando Bayolo anchors the program with "Cancionero Amoroso," a collection of five gorgeous love songs, each in a different language and style. Volti will also sing encore performances of past audience favorites: Stacy Garrop’s beautiful "Songs of Lowly Life" and Shawn Crouch’s stunning "The Garden of Paradise," along with works by David Shapiro and Charles Halka. Program repeats Saturday at 8 PM at the David Brower Center in Berkeley.Volti is a 20-voice chamber choir led by Robert Geary, specializing in contemporary music. Volti is the winner of multiple awards and a recognized new-music leader nationally and internationally. If you don't think you like "choral concerts," give this one a try -- you may find yourself blown away.
